Exiting Egypt, with nothing but what was in their backpacks, they were to change the world. Slave-Israel overnight became a new nation totally different from the rest of the world. God gave them a reverse culture. This was to prepare and fit them as His people. He said “Learn not the ways of the heathen…”

The one thing the angel told Joseph was that he (JESUS) would save his people from their sins (Matthew 1:21). So, what a time Christmas should be! Saved from our sins! Forgiven, redeemed! What glad-hearted relief!

It is impossible to have a genuine encounter with the Holy Spirit and not have an encounter with Jesus. If you ever see this happening be very careful, because while there are many spirits in the world, there is only ONE HOLY SPIRIT!

“If I were to save your life, what would you do?” This was the question that Cyrus, the King of Persia asked to a rebel chieftain named Cagular whom he had captured and was about to execute.

In many ways my first year in South Africa was the most difficult – it was 1967. I was filled with great expectations, high aspirations, and a sense of divine calling.

Science and its marvels scan the heavens and give us access to the terrifying stretches of space and time. 

People are always asking what God is up to. “Up to?” Well, apart from running the universe and being in church on Sundays, he keeps pretty busy!

Life is like electricity - it needs a generator. Money, fame, drink, drugs, fashion, and permissiveness generate nothing.

Things not said can make a powerful impression. In fact, Jesus amazed Pilate, Herod and the Jewish leaders by saying nothing. He said nothing because he was never afraid.

Jesus said “Go and preach the Good News to every one”. Yes? But how?  

NOW is the time to live – to take hold of the life that is truly life. Right now!

Thank God for Christmas! What a wonderful celebration where we remember the arrival of our Lord and Saviour! Never before has such a man as Jesus been born.

The World lurches from crisis to crisis and from catastrophe to catastrophe. Why? Because with all its knowledge it has no foundation. What is not based on the truth cannot stand. Christ weeps over the godless order as he wept over Jerusalem. 

Three times Jesus gave his disciples a miracle catch. Twice the haul of fish nearly sank their boats. The third catch, though only one fish, was every bit as much a miracle as the “153 great fishes” in John 21.  

Has providence a program all set up and dated in advance, or is it all chance? If there is, what is the real date today, and what are its future events and fixtures?

Baptism in the Spirit is real. In sacramental ritual a priest may pronounce that a candidate receives the Holy Spirit, but that is not quite the same as the wind, fire, and tongues of Acts chapter 2. 

“The earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters” (Gen 1:2). What immediately strikes us is that the Spirit of God hovered over the chaos but did not change it. Why was he doing that? Why was he waiting? 

In Bethlehem in Judea, on that very first Christmas Day, the Lord arrived from heaven with an earthly name, JESUS, anchoring him firmly to earth, yesterday, today and for ever, a heavenly earthling.
