Mission Night in Bremen, Germany17 May 2008
Baptised with fire!
After a few words of welcome by Pastor Andreas Sommer, Evangelist Reinhard Bonnke introduced his fellow-evangelist Daniel Kolenda from the USA, who began the evening with a brief but challenging message – increasing the participants’ longing for the power and presence of God. In a subsequent interview he was asked to define the greatest need of today’s church. His answer: “What is missing is Holy Spirit fire.” Which is why people were there.
It was an evening of salvation, healing and Holy Spirit filling. Those present were wonderfully encouraged to boldly continue on the way of the Lord. “This evening was a real refreshing highlight for me as a Christian in Germany” was how many participants saw the event.

The Freie Christengemeinde Bremen was full to overflowing. Some 1,700 to 1,800 visitors pressed in to the overcrowded meeting room. The only solution for a few hundred young people was to sit on the floor in front of the podium. Expectations were high; many were hungry for God and longed to be filled with the Holy Spirit.
Reinhard Bonnke expanded on that message and encouraged his listeners to hold fast to God’s living promises. “When the fire of God falls, anything is possible,” he said. “The sick are healed, the bound are set free, people are converted and people speak in new tongues.” The Evangelist said that because of the working of God in his life people often think of him as a particularly lucky lottery winner. Yet God has only the best for each of his children. There are no different ranks with God. “Everyone whose sins have been washed away through the blood of Jesus can receive his ‘original flame’ today. Receiving the power of the Holy Spirit has nothing in common with a lottery; there is no lucky winner because that power is available to everyone.” He concluded by stressing, “The Holy Spirit is not a shy little dove. We can grieve him but cannot chase him away. He is with us for ever– just as Jesus promised in John 14:16: ‘I will ask the Father, and he will send you another Counsellor to be with you for ever.’”
A particular highlight of the evening was when prayer was made for the fire of the Holy Spirit to fill the assembled people. After the prayer for healing, a whole crowd of people testified to God’s working in their lives. Among them were, for example, a young girl, who said that she had been healed of a severe visual defect, and a man who had suffered from hearing problems for years and could now hear clearly again.
